After a break from recording for a few years, Wardell's "The Road" became the third and last of the albums she recorded at Specific Sound.
The main track is a Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays original composition named "Travels," embellished with Anita’s own lyrics and retitled "Travels/The Road."
She selected the rest of the repertoire to display her more contemporary side and her agile voice soars throughout like a finely tuned instrument.
Pianist and long-time collaborator Robin Aspland leads a backing group joined by Jeremy Brown on bass with the addition of Tristan Mailliot on drums, Guillermo Hill on guitar, and Adriano Adewale providing percussion.
