Fine Music in an Increasingly Mad World.
The Last Music Company is the record label and publishing business of Malcolm Mills - former chairman and owner of Proper Music Group Ltd in the UK.
Lisa Best (USA) and Alice Mills (UK) complete the population of this microcosm that strives to provide a haven for fine music and musicians in an increasingly mad world.
This year's Spotify Americana playlist shines a light on what we've been up to. It kicks off with AMA UK award winner Hannah White and moves through Paul Brady's blistering cover of Gimme Shelter, before departing to parts beyond.
Most of these tracks have only been released or reissued within the last year or so, including the past year's new releases by Loudon Wainwright III (Loudon Live in London), Dan Penn (Smoke Filled Room), Bill Kirchen (Cat Out of The Bag), Dirk Powell (Wake), Lonnie Mack (Live From Louisville 1992), Bobby Charles (Last Train to Memphis), and Andy Irvine (Devoted). "Dirty Work Is Going On" hails from the Doc Pomus produced Fabulous Thunderbirds sessions which were rescued from a flood and restored, available now for the first time as part of The Fabulous Thunderbirds: The Jimmie Vaughan Years ~ Complete Recordings 1978-1989 box set.
Catalogue cuts from Maria Muldaur, Rosie Flores, and Jimmie Vaughan, round out the mix. Dan Penn's collaboration with the Hacienda Brothers also makes this lineup, on the 20th anniversary of its release.
