Anita Wardell has always been recognised by industry pundits as the hidden gem of the UK female jazz vocalist scene. The idea for "Noted" came from producer Malcolm Mills in an attempt to broaden Anita’s appeal by taking well-known"Blue Note" works and giving them a new spin showcasing Anita's unique vocalising.
The recordings were made at Specific Sound by Paul Riley. Anita was backed by her touring band of Robin Aspland (piano), Jeremy Brown (double bass) and Steve Brown (drums), with Alex Garnett adding saxophones on certain tracks.
Their spirited playing of these arrangements cast these classic compositions in a new light and provided the perfect vehicle for Anita to perform at her peak throughout – winning her a BBC JAZZ AWARD that same year as a result.
